,Enter an unsung hero for National Dementia Carers’ Day award
A new award has been launched to mark National Dementia Carers Day (NDCD), founded by SweetTree Home Care Services, along with the Alzheimer’s Society.
To recognise the unprecedented challenges faced during the coronavirus pandemic by family carers and friends who support individuals living at home with dementia, NCDC has created the Informal Carer of the Year award.
Sunday 13 September is the sixth National Dementia Carers’ Day which celebrates the vital contribution made by these unsung heroes.
Barry Sweetbaum, founder of SweetTree Home Care Services, explained: “We know there are thousands of remarkable family carers, neighbours and friends who selflessly bring a smile to the face of individuals living with dementia, demonstrating incredible care, patience and intuition to connect with them and we want to raise awareness of their commitment.”
Nominations for the Informal Carer of the Year award can be submitted via the National Dementia Carers Day website or on social media using the hashtag #NDCDHeroes until 1 November.
If Covid-19 restrictions allow, there will be a special event to present the £150 meal voucher prize. The voucher will cover a meal at a restaurant, or takeaway if necessary, of the winner’s choice.
Submit your nomination now or register as a NDCD supporter to receive regular updates.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently around 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and the number is continuing to rise.
